Welcome to Earth-2 Ep 04: Ryan and the Mole-man
Welcome to Earth-2

00:00 / 33:15

1X

Episode 4 of Ryan’s extended stay in the multiverse, and he and his co-hosts have a surprise lunch with a Mole-man running for political office.  They take a deep dive into race relations between mole-people and surface dwellers, and learn what hashtags are on Earth-2.  #NotAllMolemen

Will Ryan put his foot in his mouth?  Will the Mole-man spread fake news?  What are the important political platforms for this strange world?

Listen in, and perhaps those questions will be answered.

Somehow, in a major plot hole that will likely never be explained, Ryan can still receive email on Earth-2, so send him one at Earth2@heroespodcasts.com!  He might even read it in the next episode.  Don’t like Ryan?  We don’t blame you!  Simply address it to another person on the show and we will make sure it gets to them.

Welcome to Earth-2 Ep 04: Ryan and the Mole-man

Welcome to Earth-2 Ep 03: Ryan and the Fanboy

Episode 3 of Ryan’s vacation to an alternate reality, and he is trying to make friends.  Not only that, but he interviews the very first fan of the show, who happens to be a wanna-be superhero with a mechanical exosuit.  You may be thinking to yourself “Wait, this show has a fan?”, and that is a totally fair thought.  However, YOU ARE HERE TOO, READING THIS ARTICLE.  I hate to break it to you, but you may be a fan too. Either way, this week, I got to meet someone who calls himself The Construct.

Will he finally get out of jail?  Did he survive his appointment with Dr. Stonefist?  Isn’t The Construct just a Green Lantern rip-off with a mech-suit?

Listen in, and perhaps those questions will be answered.

Somehow, in a major plot hole that will likely never be explained, Ryan can still receive email on Earth-2, so send him one at Earth2@heroespodcasts.com!  He might even read it in the next episode.  Don’t like Ryan?  We don’t blame you!  Simply address it to another person on the show and we will make sure it gets to them.

Welcome to Earth-2 Ep 03: Ryan and the Fanboy

Welcome to Earth-2 Ep 02: Ryan and the Redtape

Episode 2 of Ryan’s unsupervised trip to a different Earth, in which he tries to prove the multiverse theory is, in fact, fact.  He does this by, stick with me here, recording a podcast and interviewing a lady from HR.  He is lucky that he is handsome, or we wouldn’t put up with his shit anymore.

Will he find out why he is in jail?  Who the heck is Dr. Stonefist?  Will Toby ever win Michael Scott’s affection? Did he fill out the correct HR forms?

Listen in, and perhaps those questions will be answered.

Welcome to Earth-2 Ep 01: Ryan and the Multiverse

Holy rip in space-time, Batman!  Ryan has fallen into another dimension while mindlessly looking at his cell phone and not paying attention to where he was going.  Now he finds himself trapped in a world where superheroes are real and he gets the chance to interview a couple of them.

Will he get superpowers of his own?  Who are these strange superheroes that inhabit this planet?  Why on earth was his first instinct to make a podcast?

Listen in, and perhaps those questions will be answered.

SH S3E01: 2017 Predictions

Ruth ”Blindfold” Aldine: X-Men

RUTH ALDINE- WHAT MAKES BLINDFOLD UNIQUE

I Don’t know about you but as a recent Marvel enthusiast, I feel that out of all the female X-Men characters, Blindfold does NOT get the respect and credit she deserves. She’s totally overshadowed by Storm. Don’t get me wrong, I love Storm and admire her superpowers; however, Ruth Aldine (Blindfold) can roll with the best of them.

She’s a great contender when it comes to the female X-Men cast. She first appeared in Astonishing X-Men Volume 3 in 2007. She was born in North Carolina to a mother and her father who left the family soon after she was born. Ruth also has a brother, Luca, who she did not get along with. He basically hated her.

During an attempt to kill Ruth with a chainsaw, Luca ended up killing their mother while she was trying to protect Ruth, causing him to be put on Death Row and Ruth being sent to live with her aunt in Prospect Plains. Living there for 6 years was a time she really enjoyed as she was able to perfect her mutant superhero power.

Blindfold

While visiting her brother’s execution however, things took a downward spiral when her Luca Astral projected himself to steal many of Ruth’s powers, leaving her depleted of the young woman she was becoming. These early life traumas really play a big part into why Blindfold is the way she is throughout the X-Men series. Unlike the rest of the X-Men characters, Ruth Aldine was born with her superpowers. To put it simply, she was already badass from the start.

Lets take a moment to examine these mutant superpowers Blindfold has:

  • Blind-Anophthalmic
  • Psionic
  • Telapathic
  • Telekinesis
  • Clairvoyant
  • Retrocognitive
  • Precognitive

COME ON! That’s a pretty impressive list of powers here. That can’t be denied.

blindfoldAn X-Men movie about this awesome character should be made, in my opinion. Can I get an Amen in Agreement? At the very least  she should have a STRONG character feature in upcoming sequel movies. Okay, so she’s not always depicted to be the most sexy female Marvel comic character, but that should not really be a factor here. I can’t stress how much shame and embarrassment I have over the fact there is so little Blindfold mania. When I think of how she can see things without even having eyes, that’s real irony. Her precognitive powers are an excellent add to the recipe in the making of Blindfold too.

It’s seems that with all these superpower responsibility she has, Ruth Aldine seems to be a character that has a lot on her shoulders, what with trying to save the world from the bad guys after all.

I first discovered her only too recently actually. Some Marvel die hards may say I am late to the party, but I am sure glad to have been introduced to such an amazing female Marvel character . To me, she embodies a quiet courage and understated strength. Many episodes emphasize her empathy towards her peers. This quality is what stood out to me as unique. She’s a sheer fighter who has beat a lot of odds, despite her past.  She doesn’t let that hold her back from being of service to others, and we can indeed learn something from that.

Please school me with your opinions on this brilliant female X-Men character.   We at The Grid Daily would like to hear your favourite Blindfold’ moments and which of her superpowers you most admire.  We want to know that we are not alone in our Blindfold appreciation.

Can you both be quiet? I’m trying to write a post about the new Deadpool BluRay.
(Who’s Ray, and why is he so Blue?)
[Da Boo Dee Da Boo Die!!!]

What you are currently looking at is an intro into the little world of Deadpool!

Deadpool_VHS_Announce_4_rgbGuys, we are getting off track here.

Enough with the sidebars already!
(Wow, you are getting really testy!)
[Testes, he he..]

Hey, if you looked like Ryan Reynolds crossed with a Shar-Pei, you’d understand!
(You put that mask on, on purpose.)
[It’s not even Deadpool, it’s just a crappy Freddy Kreuger mask…]

Obviously, I’m not going to get anywhere with these two commenting on everything, and since I can’t find their off switches, I present to you my ode to Deadpool!
(You can definitely, find my On switch, if you know what I mean!)

(Yeah, it’s a really crappy poem, it doesn’t even rhyme!)
[Are there any people who still haven’t seen this… Bzzzt..]

Finally, I found the Off Switch!
As I was saying…
Based on Marvel Comics’ version of insanity personified, DEADPOOL gives a segue and flashback infused tall-tale of mercenary Wade Wilson, after he is subjected to terrible experiments, gains a red suit (to hide the blood from the bad guys) and begins a rampage of vengeance!
Starring Ryan Reynolds, who has been trying to get this movie made since ‘Origins’ came out, mainly to clean that stain from his record.

“In the comic book world, Deadpool is a man of our time with the ability to spout just the right thing, in terms of pop culture reference, at the worst possible moment.” – Ryan Reynolds
Tim Miller makes his feature film directorial debut on DEADPOOL. But, let’s talk about the movie a bit more.

Ok, I kind of lost my train of thought. There’s lots of action, adventure, comedy, and a love story thrown in for good measure. Also, Explosions!

Seriously, if you haven’t seen this movie by now, pre-order the Blu-Ray, and you’re welcome! It comes out on May 10th.

Deadpool – A Spoiler-Free Review

If you hadn’t noticed, a little movie called Deadpool destroyed box office records this weekend. In three days it made back its budget three fold. For a few days, it held 100% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s received good review after good review from a variety of sources. This one, is no different.

Deadpool renewed my faith in Deadpool. Somewhere in the 2000’s, he became my least favorite character. He was the mascot for all the comic book fans I hated. He was overexposed and overrated, which made the realization of his movie a very apprehensive undertaking for me as a fan.

I’m a Marvel fan. I want the movies to do well. It does no good when they bomb. Even though I went into Deadpool utterly nervous for the mess that could unfold, I was very quickly set as ease.

Deadpool

Deadpool is a labor of love. Every minute on screen was hewn from the hard work of the director, Tom Miller, or Deadpool champion, Ryan Reynolds. He especially has done everything in his power for the last 11 years to get this movie made in the absolute best version possible. And it shows. For the first time since I saw Reynolds in The Nines, I could see his true acting talent come through. He’s such a talented actor that he has a natural charisma to coast through comedies, where the line between Reynolds and character is blurred. That doesn’t happen here. Reynolds isn’t rehashing Van Wilder; he’s Wade Deadpool Wilson inside and out. He fulfills every aspect of the character: the quirks, the tragedies, the love, the skills. He does it all. And that’s what we needed in a Deadpool movie just for it to be enjoyable, let alone, good.

Deadpool - Wade and Vanessa

The best part of the film is the existence of it. I know that’s such a weird thing to say, but it’s true. It didn’t worry about diversified casting, passing the Bechtel test, or what awards it could qualify for this upcoming season. They didn’t care what characters they included, whether or not they were locked up in Marvel contract bull, or which powers they could CGI in. They just made a good comic book movie. And they did so unapologetically.

Deadpool - Negasonic Teenage Warhead Brianna Hildebrand

Its existence also proved that rated R comic book films are wanted, if not needed. Certain characters of notoriety warrant being done correctly. Sometimes that means admitting the focus is on adult characters and continuing despite a sacrifice in the merchandise pull from the kids demographic. It proved women don’t need a romance angle to see comic book films and comic book films can have a romance angle that helps the story without feeling forced. It proved good things come all year round and we don’t have to wait until summer for some good films.

Please, don’t take my word for it. Go see the movie for yourself. Take a date. Grab some tacos. Watch some much needed vulgarity and violence. You won’t regret it.

The Grid Rating Saucer 5\5

Jessica Jones has a Trailer and Release Date

It’s time to start getting excited people.  The second of Netflix’s Marvel TV series, Jessica Jones, finally has a trailer and a release date:

Sadly the trailer doesn’t tell us much about the show or the character.  But it sure is gorgeous and the music is amazing.  If they put as much care into the show as they did in this trailer, I suspect it will be amazing.    November 20th can’t come fast enough.

And I’m so happy it’s on Netflix, so I’ll be able to binge watch the show at my own pace.  It’s going to be awesome.

What do you think of the trailer? Are you as excited for this as Daredevil? More so? Comment below!

Box Office Numbers: July 17-19, 2015

Not surprisingly, Ant-Man, Marvel Studios’ newest MCU film, won the box office its opening weekend, beating out Minions which saw a nearly 57% drop from it’s first week. Check out the list of the Top 10 highest grossing films from this weekend’s box office below.

Before we dive into the specific numbers, let’s take a deeper dive into Ant-Man. While it did win its opening weekend with an estimated $58.04 million, those numbers pale in comparison to Marvel Studios’ previous hitters. In fact, the first of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, Iron Man, brought in $98.62 million in it’s opening weekend way back in May of 2008. The first Thor made $65.72 million in May of 2011 while Captain America: The First Avenger made $65.06 million in July of the same year. In fact, only one film brought in less during its opening weekend, The Incredible Hulk with $55.41 back in June 2008 and to be fair, we had just seen a Hulk-centric film in 2003. Now, we are only talking about official MCU movies here. Ant-Man did beat out other Marvel films including X-Men, X-Men: First Class, The Wolverine, Fantastic Four (2005), and Big Hero 6, just to name a few of the more popular movies. What does this mean for the newest hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Probably not much. Many expected Ant-Man to fall short of previous Marvel Studios films simply because people don’t know the character as well and we haven’t had an origin story in this universe for a while. We do expect to see Scott Lang join up with the Avengers in Captain America: Civil War. To see what we thought of the film, check out our review of Ant-Man.

Also breaking into the list with their opening weekend, Trainwreck starring Amy Schumer. She also wrote the film. It’s directed by Judd Apatow. Our limited release film is Mr. Holmes, starring Ian McKellen.

  1. Ant-Man ($58.04 million in opening weekend across 3,856 theaters)
  2. Minions ($50.2 million in second weekend, totaling $216.69 million)
  3. Trainwreck ($30.2 million in opening weekend across 3,158 theaters)
  4. Inside Out ($11.66 million in fifth weekend, totaling $306.36 million)
  5. Jurassic World ($11.4 million in sixth weekend, totaling $611.17 million)
  6. Terminator: Genisys ($5.4 million in third weekend, totaling $80.64 million)
  7. Magic Mike XXL ($4.5 million in third weekend, totaling $58.64 million)
  8. The Gallows ($4 million in second weekend, totaling $18 million)
  9. Ted 2 ($2.7 million in fourth weekend, totaling $77.457 million)
  10. Mr. Holmes ($2.489 million in opening weekend, limited release across 363 theaters)

Did you catch a movie over the weekend? What are you most looking forward to seeing on the big screen? Comment below!
