I am joined by returning guest, Rae, to review two Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 episodes, “Perpetual Infinity” and “Through the Valley of Shadows”! With a double episode, there’s no time for news, so it’s spoilers abound for the last two weeks of Discovery! We focus on the Red Angel, Culber\Statements, Spock\Burnham, and Pike’s own Kobayashi Maru.

We’ll be back next week to review “Such Sweet Sorrow”.

What did you think of these two episodes? Were we off base?

New Eden, Same Trek

Discovery continues with Episode 2 of the new season, “New Eden”. We discuss all of this along with the overall plot of New Eden, spoilers and all. Before we do, we talk Trek news, specifically the first episode of The Ready Room, CBS’ replacement to After Trek.

We’ll be back next week to review Discovery Episode 3 “Point of Light”!

Missed our review of the season premiere, “Brother”? Not to worry! Catch it right here: http://heroespodcasts.com/rr57-pike-has-boarded-discovery

RR07: Saru and Pandora

Saru gets an away mission but before that, non-corporeal aliens show up a lot in Star Trek. In fact, the Q and Voyager’s Kes are among some of the more well known energy beings. This week, we talk about our favorite non-corporeal alien episodes of Star Trek and we manage to cover three different series with our picks!

Then, we provide our spoiler-free thoughts on Star Trek: Discovery Episode 8 “Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum”. We do pause for a moment and then dive into spoilers discussing the opening battle, Saru’s away mission on a familiar planet, and a return to the Klingon ship of the dead, among other things.

Join our three-man crew for a journey that will span decades, every episode, every series, every movie, and every possible timeline no matter how small.

Come to Kansas City Comic Con November 10-12 and see us at booth #643! Three of the shows on the network will also be hosting live panel episodes! Hit up our Facebook page for details.

RR06 – Space Whales and Time Travel

It wouldn’t be Star Trek without a convoluted time travel plot, which Discovery delivers with episode 7, “Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad.” This week, we are joined by cosplayer and Trek aficionado Michael Nguyen (sitting in for Derreck). We start the episode with a discussion of our favorite time travel themed episodes with a TNG classic and a couple of chroniton-packed DS9 episodes.

Then, we take our discussion to the details and plot points of “Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad,” as well as some good-natured griping about the current state of pop culture criticism regarding Discovery. We discuss the music of Wyclef Jean, beer pong, and Trojan space whales. We also highlight our favorite Staments line so far, “As days go, this is a weird one.”

We discuss the details of Lorca’s plot with Mudd, the interactions between Saru and Burnham, plus Stamets relationship is revealed.

What alien species was the most misunderstood? Whose motives did we not quite get? We discuss this and then take a deep dive into Star Trek: Discovery Episode 4 – “The Butcher’s Knife Cares not for the Lamb’s Cry”. We talk about the tardigrade, dilithium, the Klingon plot, Captain Georgiou, and how the design of the USS Discovery finally comes into play.

Discovery continues with Episode 3 “Context is for Kings” and we finally get to see the USS Discovery and meet Captain Lorca! This week on Redshirts & Runabouts, we break down the episode and talk about what it did better than the prelude to the series, as well as things we might not have enjoyed.

We kick things off with our spoiler-free thoughts before breaking to dive into the details. We talk about the new characters like Captain Lorca, Cadet Tilly, and the return of Saru, the new ships, the technology, and the mission Discovery might actually be on during the series.

There’s also a tease for an upcoming Star Trek book contest! So make sure you listen!
