RR44: Star Trek Generations Review

RR31: Khan and Miri Make Star Trek

It’s time to finish up our Star Trek: The Original Series Season 1 journey with “Miri”, “Space Seed”, and a special guest! We promise not to bonk you on the head but we will certainly talk about the significance of Khan’s first appearance in the franchise that led to The Wrath of Khan saving the franchise.

Next week we move forward in time to TNG with a brand new episode format! You don’t want to miss it.

How do you feel about “Space Seed”? Does it hold up to time? Do you think it gets a bump because of The Wrath of Khan? Is “Miri” really that bad?

RR31: Khan and Miri Make Star Trek

RR30: Charlie and the Horta

For our big episode 30 “Charlie and the Horta”, we bring on our show’s first guest (if you don’t count our convention floor interview with Doug Jones)! Hearth Barker of The Tricorder Transmissions network joins us to talk about two classic TOS episodes, “Charlie X” and “The Devil in the Dark”! Just like we’ve been doing, we tackle one low rated episode and one highly rated one. “Charlie X” is rated quite low, usually due to how is handles sexual harassment and the male ego. “The Devil in the Dark”, on the other hand, shows us the first Vulcan mind meld and a side of Spock we aren’t used to seeing.

Next week we review “Miri” and “Space Seed” (we swapped episodes, sorry about that)! Don’t miss it.

How do you feel about “The Devil in the Dark”? Does it hold up to time? Do you like the horta? Is “Charlie X” really that bad? Yes. Yes it is.

RR27: Where Gary Mitchell Has Gone Before

Let’s be honest, a lot of podcasts have talked about Star Trek’s second pilot “Where No Man Has Gone Before”. But don’t worry! We’ve got our own fresh take on the classic Gary Mitchell episode, especially since this is Jeremy’s first viewing! We also announce our new format going forward that will make covering classic Trek a little smoother and hopefully more fun.

Join us next week for our first episode in the all new format when we review City on the Edge of Forever and The Alternative Factor!

How do you feel about “Where No Man Has Gone Before”? Do you think Gary Mitchell makes a solid antagonist?

RR24: The Undiscovered Country

While our show might be best in the original Klingon, Jeremy and I decide to take a stab at reviewing the sixth and final original series cast Star Trek film, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. The big Trek Cold War movie pits Kirk and the Enterprise against an invisible and unknown adversary right at a pivotal moment peace between the Klingon Empire and the Federation is being forged. Can the Enterprise prevail? Where is Sulu? And how much Romulan Ale is too much?

Plus, we talk about some of the Star Trek: Discovery news out of Wondercon including a special deleted scene from the season 1 finale featuring Georgiou and Section 31.

How do you feel about Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country? Where does it land in your Star Trek film ranking? Was it an appropriate send-off for the original series crew?

RR23: Star Trek – The Final Frontier Review

What does God need with a Starship? Go climb a rock! And don’t forget to tell your friends about your siblings. Greg and Jeremy tackle what is widely considered to be the worst original cast Star Trek film, if not the worst of them all, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. It’s got mountain climbing, camping, a jail break, a fan dance, and Spock’s previously unknown brother… that’s right, Burnham wasn’t the first missing sibling.

How do you feel about Star Trek V: The Final Frontier? Where does it land in your Star Trek film ranking?

RR23: Star Trek – The Final Frontier Review

RR22: Controversy in Star Trek

Star Trek has been around for over 50 years. We have nearly 750 episodes across six… maybe even seven (yeah, I’m looking at you The Animated Series) shows. Sure, there’s been some issues with consistency and canon, but there’s also been some highly controversial moments both from episodes themselves and behind the scenes action. This, Greg and Derreck take a break from Discovery and the movies to talk about controversy in Star Trek. With Jeremy getting setup on the West Coast, we’ll return to our movie re-watch when he has some Internet.

Now, what makes something controversial? Well, we cover episode themes and content that perhaps turned broadcasting companies away from airing episodes, or ones that prompted fans to call up the network to complain. We also discuss some that even made the actors upset. But that’s not all. We talk about issues between certain actors and overarching concepts that didn’t quite pan out the way we all would have hoped.

Since we’ve been talking Discovery a lot recently, we do not discuss the new series in this episode. But trust us. We’ll be back for a follow-up episode.

How do you feel about our Star Trek controversies? Which ones should we talk about in Part 2?

RR22: Controversy in Star Trek

RR14: The One With The Whales

Our Trek back through the original Star Trek movies continues with our discussion on Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home… or… the one with the whales. In our first episode of 2018, Greg, Jeremy, and Derreck complete the Original Series trilogy by traveling back to 1980s San Francisco to look for a couple of humpback whales, transparent aluminum, and nuclear whessels.

So sit back, relax, and Voyage Home with us for arguably the most lighthearted Star Trek film.

How do you feel about the highest grossing Original Series movie? Do you think it hit the mark or do you think it was just a little too silly? Did it leave too much of the Treknobabble behind or did it open the doors to a wider audience?

RR12: Quentin Tarantino Star Trek Pitch

With Quentin Tarantino behind the helm of the next Star Trek movie AND Patrick Stewart showing interest in returning to the role of Picard, your three hosts work together to pitch the movie we think could come from such a partnership. We get through the basic premise and the first two acts before running out of time, so be sure to check it out!

We’ll give you a hint, there’s a taste of “Yesterday’s Enterprise” mixed in with “All Good Things…” and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. Curious?

Listen in and let us know what you think of our idea, how you think it should end, or what you would pitch for a Quentin Tarantino directed Star Trek movie with Patrick Stewart!

RR10: Reviewing The Motion Picture

In our first non-Discovery episode, we go all the way back to the franchise’s new beginning, The Motion Picture. We discuss the legendary space pj’s, Goldsmith’s iconic score, the new ship model, and of course, V’Ger itself.

Where does The Motion Picture land in your Star Trek movie ranking? Is it essential Trek? Should future prospective fans just skip the franchise’s first big screen production? Did you buy the V’Ger concept?
