justice league

Our DCEU Playlist

Back in June of 2018, the Screen Heroes podcast decided to take on the DCEU and create their own vision for the cinematic universe.

We began with a rewrite of the first entry, Man of Steel, followed by Batman v Superman. After that, Our DCEU diverted from the WB movies. We decided that our story could do justice, pun intended, to a Justice League Dark story. After that, we gave Shazam his solo film prior to the release of the actual Shazam movie in March of 2019. That solo flick was followed-up with our version of a Justice League movie and next up will be our Wonder Woman film! So keep an eye out for that. Enjoy!

We also talk news including The Lion King “live action”, Aquaman box office expectations, Young Justice, and more!

Don’t forget ShazamGate ’18 with a brand new shirt design available right now on our TeePublic store. Save 25% off store purchases through Dec. 2 by using code HOLIDAYCOOL!

SH S4E19: Justice League Movie Review

Justice League has landed and so it’s time to talk about all that we liked and didn’t for the latest DCEU film. Synder and Whedon brought together DC Comics’ most iconic heroes including Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash,  Cyborg, and Aquaman! Did the movie pull it off or is a bust for Warner Bros?

What did you think of Justice League?

SH S4E19: Justice League Movie Review

SMT06: Batman, Spongebob, Thin Mints

This week is a bit of a change. Not only are we recording on a much worse mic (sorry), but the part of Danielle is being played by Jeremy’s girlfriend Erica. While not the cartoon obsessive Danielle is, she is a proper comic nerd and totally obsessed with Spongebob, which was her pick for the podcast.

We watched an episode of The New Batman Adventures where three kids swap stories about The Batman, including a one that is pretty much a kiddie version of Frank Miller’s Dark Knight. This pick was ostensibly in honor of the release of Justice League. Why not do an episode of Justice League, you might ask? Well, it wasn’t free on Amazon Prime and time was a factor.

Erica got into the superhero spirit and picked an ep of Spongebob Squarepants where he tangles with the utility belt and invisible boatmobile of none other than Mermaid Man himself. We learn all about Erica’s obsession with “Wumbo” and the declining mental state of Ms. Puff.

We also check out a Girl Scout Thin Mint cereal from General Mills that… well… is bad. Spoiler: It was weird and gross.

Are you a fan of Spongebob Squarepants or Batman the Animated Series? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter @HeroesPodcasts!

SH S4E18: Ranking the Batman at KCCC

SMT04: Brak Show, Oblongs, Special K

This week is a little different than previous episodes. Once a month, we’re doing prime time cartoons instead of our usual Saturday Morning or after school fare. Jeremy starts things off with late night [Adult Swim] classic, The Brak Show Starring Brak and Danielle goes with WB gem, The Oblongs.

We also start things off with a discussion of the cartoon career of Mark Hamill, including a very meta Justice League short that was released recently. We also go into a Nicktoon creator getting fired for sexual harassment. Very adult stuff.

The cereal this week, to go with the theme of being very adult, is a limited apple cinnamon flavor of Special K. This was Jeremy’s pick even though, as he learned doing the research, is a cereal targeted at weight-conscious women.

Are you a fan of The Brak Show or The Oblongs? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter @HeroesPodcasts!

Costume Couture: Injustice 2

The battle for DC continues in a new video game, Injustice 2 and we’re here to talk about the incredibly cool and sometimes totally lame costumes. Injustice is an alternate DC universe where Superman is the bad guy, just about anyone can get superpowers, and everyone wears armor. Sometimes that creates a very cool new look but other times, we just don’t understand why they bothered.

SH S4E03: SDCC 2017 Recap

DCC Wrap-Up and Cosplay Gallery

DCC, Denver Comic Con, is one of the bigger comic convention in the United States, hosting well over 100,000 people in 2016’s convention. Celebrity guests in 2017 included Weird Al Yankovic, Catherine Tate, Clare Kramer, some of the Stranger Things kids, and the entire voice cast of the animated Justice League TV show, among others. Of course, DCC included an array of comic book creators, authors, and animators, making the convention a pop culture scene for just about anyone. While we had a small presence at DCC, we were able to get a couple people on the ground. Check out our small cosplay gallery below and then a first-person account of DCC 2017.

[Best_Wordpress_Gallery id=”4″ gal_title=”dcc-2017-cosplay”]

My experience at DCC was for the most part an enjoyable one. It is a huge con and it’s a lot to take in so be prepared. The convention center itself was huge and had a lot of room for all kinds of artists, booths, cosplayers, vendors, and more. They used every inch of that space for what that could so I was impressed. They had some great media guests who I got to meet and get pictures/autographs with. These are guests I haven’t seen at our local con so seeing them was a real treat. But the con wasn’t without its issues. Mainly how they handled the prop policy concerning fake guns (announcing that no kind of gun or anything resembling a gun would be allowed in an hour before the con doors opened on Saturday….even though I still saw some), enforcing bag checks, line control, and costume checks. A serious lack in each department for those if you ask me. Also lacking was the organization skills for huge group photos. You were kind of herded on a stage, was told where to stand and then wasn’t being told you were being photographed until you heard someone say “and now do another pose” Like wait what now? I didn’t know we were starting. If DCC fixes what they did wrong this year then I would highly consider coming back, its a semi close con with lots to do and see. Out of 10 stars, I would give it for sure a 7.5 out of 10.

Did you attend DCC 2017? What did you think of the convention? What were you most excited to see? What annoyed you the most? Comment below!

First-hand account by me, Haus of Turner Cosplay.
