Continuing Avatar: The Last Airbender

I continue on my quest through an alternate Earth in Avatar: The Last Airbender. I am joined once more by Zach Story as we discuss the serious implications and topics this family show offers.

Debuting in 2005, this show is the brainchild of creators Mark Dante DiMartino and Brian Koneitzko. It was animated primarily in South Korea and stars popular actors Mae Whitman and Dante Basco. The show ran for three seasons, produced one spin-off show “The Legend of Korra” and multiple graphic novels, and was adapted in 2010 into a live-action feature length film by M. Night Shyamalan. It is currently being adapted into a live-action television series by Netflix.

Since this is a half-hour show, each podcast episode will cover 4 individual episodes this time around.

This Week’s Episodes:

This episode discusses “The Blue Spirit,” “The Fortuneteller,” “Bato of the Water Tribe,” and “The Deserter.”

Where to Watch:

Where can you catch up on Avatar: The Last Airbender? Well, you can stream the show (with ads) from Nickelodeon or you can rent/buy each episode from Amazon.

Avatar: The Last Airbender: Water – Part 1

A brand new year, a brand new topic! Recurring guest Zach Story is back with his takes on one of the best television shows ever produced: Avatar: The Last Airbender (this is not hyperbole; this is a fact). We begin with the first season that started it all – Book 1: Water!

Debuting in 2005, this show is the brainchild of creators Mark Dante DiMartino and Brian Koneitzko. It was animated primarily in South Korea and stars popular actors Mae Whitman and Dante Brasco.

Our first episode discusses “The Boy in the Iceberg,” “The Avatar Returns,” The Southern Air Temple,” and “The Warriors of Kyoshi.”

Where can you catch up on Avatar: The Last Airbender? Well, you can stream the show (with ads) from Nickelodeon or you can rent/buy each episode from Amazon.

SMT015 – Bob’s Burgers and Cookie Crisp

On this week’s Tooncast, Jeremy and Danielle discuss the ever-evolving, love-filled world of Bob’s Burgers. They chat about Sunday FOX animation, the upcoming Bob’s Burgers movie, the urban setting vs. suburban settings in other animated family comedies, Louise’s bunny ears, and another trip to Danielle’s Depressing Fan Theory Corner to learn about how some people think Bob’s whole family is actually dead. Fun stuff.

The audio quality is below where we’d like it, not sure what happened with this one. There’s an occasional humming I couldn’t isolate and remove. We’re not audio experts, but we’ll get a handle on this stuff someday.

Bob’s Burgers features the voice talent of H. Jon Benjamin, Eugene Mirman and Kristen Schaal.

SMT015 – Bob’s Burgers and Cookie Crisp

SMT14 – Taz Mania and Golden Crisp

Danielle is back this week with a look at two episodes of the complicated and deeply problematic Looney Tunes spin-off (emphasis on the spin), Taz Mania! We discuss Danielle’s weird Jawbreaker necklace, the political incorrectness of portraying Australian aborigines as upper class white Americans, Danielle’s complete inability to place the release year of classic animation, and the unhealthy wonderfulness that is Golden Crisp.

Then things trail off a bit near the end. We recorded late, were a bit punchy and there’s only so much I can edit out.

If anyone is interested in watching the clip of the 16 tonne weight gag I keep talking about, you can watch it here.

This show features the voice talent of Rob Paulsen, Jim Cummings and Maurice LaMarche.

SMT013: Tiny Toon Adventures and Frosted Mini-Wheats

This week, Jeremy and returning substitute co-host Erica take a look at recent Hulu addition, Steven Spielberg Presents Tiny Toon Adventures. A classic. So good.

We take a look at the first episode, where Babs and Buster create the show from scratch overnight and the Acme Acres Zone, the Tiny Toon take on The Twilight Zone.

We also discuss the complexity of Harry Potter paintings, cartoon-inspired carrot consumption, the problematic Taz Mania cartoon, false memories of the Twilight Zone and our love of classic Looney Tunes.

While we watch, we snack on Frosted Mini-Wheats and marvel at their ability to absorb all the milk in the bowl.

Are you a fan of Tiny Toon Adventures? Other Spielberg produced 90s animation? Let us know your favorite ep in the comments or on Twitter @HeroesPodcasts!
