In addition to some big announcement this week, we fan-cast a live action Mortal Kombat movie featuring a slew of characters from Sub Zero and Scorpion to Sonya Blade and Mileena. We cover over 15 different characters from across the video game franchise’s history trying to leave no stone unturned. We cast big name actors, martial arts experts, and a few fan favorites.

Before we kick off the main discussion we want to announce some big brand changes here at The Grid Daily. Due to our love for podcasting and such, we are now the Heroes Podcast Network, producers of Screen Heroes. The Grid Daily name is being phased out so we can focus more on podcast and video content, with less reliance on written, blog-style content. We’re still the same people and Screen Heroes will continue to record live every Tuesday night at 8PM CST on Twitch!

In the meantime, please make sure you like, following, and subscribe to our various social media and Internet outlets, some of which have already changed to the Heroes Podcast Network branding. Check out all the links below!

SH S2E18: Halloween Special

Halloween is almost here, meaning it’s time to celebrate the films we all love and sometimes love to hate for their intensity, gore, and startling surprises. That’s right, it’s time to pick our favorite films including horror, ghosts, zombies, vampires, slashers, and more! With returning guest, Ian of Haus of Turner Cosplay, we each pick our own favorites dating back to the black and white films all the way through 2016.

We had a lot of fun with people in the Twitch chat this week, so be sure to join us live and be part of the episode!

SH S2E17: Pitching a DC Comics CW Series

This week, each of our three hosts pitch their own TV series for The CW that exists in the DC Comics and DC Entertainment universe. The show can include any DC Comics character, but hopefully some that The CW could actually get their hands on. That’s about it for the rules. The shows can exist on Earth 1 with Flash and Arrow, Earth 2 or 3, or even whichever Earth (maybe 4) that Supergirl lives in. One thing we do is take the whole DCEU into account. While Barry Allen’s Flash exists in both The Flash TV show and in the movies, with different actors, we tried not to take advantage of that too much and focus on more DC Comics characters.

So, sit back, listen in, and let us know what you think of our DC Comics TV series pitches for The CW!

SH S2E15: The Rise and Fall of Tim Burton

Happy October, everyone! We kick off the month of Halloween with one of our most well-known directors, Tim Burton. His latest film, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children hit theaters this past weekend, so we sat down to talk about the Eva Green film while also touching Tim Burton’s most famous works, the good and the bad. We discuss what we love about his films and where we think he has gone wrong in the past and with his latest, Miss Peregrine.

We had some wonderful people join us for the live stream this week! They posed questions, comments, made jokes, and helped

SH S2E14: Superhero Fall TV Prep

It’s that time of year again, time for the new TV season! With so much premiering in the months of September and October, we’ve decided just to focus on superhero themed TV series that premiere in those two months. This includes Marvel and DC related series. We’ll talk ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., FOX’s Gotham, Netflix’s Luke Cage, and The CW’s Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. We’ll talk about where these shows left off last season, some expectations for this season, plus our hopes and dreams as these shows move forward, some in a positive direction and others on their way down.

Please be aware that we’ll be talking spoilers from these shows. Anything that happened prior to this season is fair game. We might talk last season’s finales, significant plot points, and where this season starts off. You have been warned.

Batman has a lot of sidekicks. In fact, there are several different versions of Robin not to mention Batgirl, Batwoman, his trusty butler, and Commissioner Gordon, among others. We sit down to rank the Top 14 Batman Sidekicks and then we each throw in our wildcard to round out the 15. We look over each version of Robin plus many other characters who have stood along side the Dark Knight, some even wearing the cowl. Listen in for our ranking and then let us know what your list looks like. Did we leave anyone off? Did we rank someone too high or too low? Let us know in the comments below.

SH S2E11: Star Trek Mission New York

This week, we have a very special episode recorded live at Star Trek: Mission New York! This convention was in celebration of the Star Trek franchise’s 50th anniversary, which is officially Thursday, September 8th. We were lucky enough to attend and interview three fantastic people! First up, we have Kelli Fitzpatrick and Derek Attico. These two were both selected as part of the 10 whose personal Star Trek short stories were chosen for official publication in this year’s Strange New Worlds novel. This book series was annual from 1998 through 2007 but has now returned after its announcement last October with winners selected this past April. I was able to take some of Kelli and Derek’s time this weekend to talk about the experience and their process. Next, we were lucky enough to get some time with Al River, a Lead Designer for Star Trek Online, specifically focusing on the console launch of the game that hit PC over six years ago. The console launch happened yesterday, September 6th and is free-to-play on Xbox One and PS4. We go in-depth on the process of bringing the longtime PC game to consoles, details on UI changes, and more.

SH S2E10: Pitching a Marvel Netflix Series

To date, Marvel and Netflix have joined forces for two seasons of Daredevil and one season of Jessica Jones with two new shows on the way, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. So far, this relationship has worked out incredibly well with the Marvel Netflix series earning more praise and support than the major network series on ABC A.G.E.N.T.S of Shield and Agent Carter. Much like what The CW has done for DC Entertainment, Netflix has done for Marvel. In the spirit of this relationship, we sit down to pitch our own Marvel Netflix series with special guest Russ Matthews. By listening in to this episode, you’ll hear four very different TV series ideas, each one part of the MCU, but each one existing in its own way with its own characters.

So, sit back, relax, listen in, and then let us know your thoughts on our Marvel Netflix series pitches!

SH S2E8: What if Batman v Superman was Made in the 90s

We’re back after a week off to discuss how Batman v Superman would have been different if it was done 25 years ago in the early 90s! Your three hosts each provide their own take on their version of the film including who would portray Batman and Superman, what other Justice League members would be included and how the plot would be different back during the height of the Michael Keaton Batman.

Before we kick off this week’s What If scenario, we talk about our experiences at Kansas City Comic Con this past weekend. Ryan with Buster Props had an artist alley table and Rae with the Super Sirens had a cosplay booth while I (Derreck) enjoyed a nice press pass.
