Hey there boys and girls, looks like the Saturday Morning Tooncast might miss a few Saturday mornings in the coming months.

Your intrepid host Jeremy got hisself a new job as a producer in Hollywood (I know, right?) and won’t be able to do his weekly cartoon-watching with Danielle. We might try and figure out a way to do it via the web, but probably not until I get settled into my new gig and new city.

Thanks for watching with us these last four months. Hopefully we’ll be back soon with some more cereal reviews and cartoon chat.

SMT015 – Bob’s Burgers and Cookie Crisp

On this week’s Tooncast, Jeremy and Danielle discuss the ever-evolving, love-filled world of Bob’s Burgers. They chat about Sunday FOX animation, the upcoming Bob’s Burgers movie, the urban setting vs. suburban settings in other animated family comedies, Louise’s bunny ears, and another trip to Danielle’s Depressing Fan Theory Corner to learn about how some people think Bob’s whole family is actually dead. Fun stuff.

The audio quality is below where we’d like it, not sure what happened with this one. There’s an occasional humming I couldn’t isolate and remove. We’re not audio experts, but we’ll get a handle on this stuff someday.

Bob’s Burgers features the voice talent of H. Jon Benjamin, Eugene Mirman and Kristen Schaal.

SMT015 – Bob’s Burgers and Cookie Crisp

SMT14 – Taz Mania and Golden Crisp

Danielle is back this week with a look at two episodes of the complicated and deeply problematic Looney Tunes spin-off (emphasis on the spin), Taz Mania! We discuss Danielle’s weird Jawbreaker necklace, the political incorrectness of portraying Australian aborigines as upper class white Americans, Danielle’s complete inability to place the release year of classic animation, and the unhealthy wonderfulness that is Golden Crisp.

Then things trail off a bit near the end. We recorded late, were a bit punchy and there’s only so much I can edit out.

If anyone is interested in watching the clip of the 16 tonne weight gag I keep talking about, you can watch it here.

This show features the voice talent of Rob Paulsen, Jim Cummings and Maurice LaMarche.

SMT013: Tiny Toon Adventures and Frosted Mini-Wheats

This week, Jeremy and returning substitute co-host Erica take a look at recent Hulu addition, Steven Spielberg Presents Tiny Toon Adventures. A classic. So good.

We take a look at the first episode, where Babs and Buster create the show from scratch overnight and the Acme Acres Zone, the Tiny Toon take on The Twilight Zone.

We also discuss the complexity of Harry Potter paintings, cartoon-inspired carrot consumption, the problematic Taz Mania cartoon, false memories of the Twilight Zone and our love of classic Looney Tunes.

While we watch, we snack on Frosted Mini-Wheats and marvel at their ability to absorb all the milk in the bowl.

SMT12: Charlie Brown, Foster’s and Fruity Pebbles

Welcome to 2018 from your friends at the Saturday Morning Tooncast. We ring in the new year with a Charlie Brown New Year’s special, Happy New Year, Charlie Brown where the sad, bald child is forced to read the works of Leo Tolstoy and dance against his will. Danielle follows up with the delightful Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends episode where the gang meets Cheese, the cereal-loving yellow gremlin that drives Blu insane.

We also tear into a few bowls of Fruity Pebbles. It’s totally understandable why Barney would steal this from Fred. If that was their dynamic. We don’t really remember.

SMT11: The Simpsons and Holiday Rice Krispies

Special Christmas Episode! This week, we try to play with the format a little bit. Jeremy starts with a little Rice Krispies and Simpsons history monologue (a convention he shamelessly stole from one of his favorite off-network podcasts, Doughboys). We celebrate the holidays with a pair of Christmas episodes from our fave ‘toon, The Simpsons. The first one is a little light on the Christmas aspect, but the second is pretty deep into that present-filled world of candy canes and snow.

We also dive into a few bowls of the very colorful Holiday Rice Krispies which, as it turns out, are just regular Rice Krispies with food coloring.

Are you a fan of The Simpsons? Dumb question, of course you are. Let us know your favorite ep in the comments or on Twitter @HeroesPodcasts!

SMT10: Nicktoons Out of the Vault Again [Part 2], Hot Cocoa Puffs

This week with our milestone TENTH episode, we head back into the mysterious Nicktoons bargain bin DVD to see what treasures it has to offer. After accidentally reading the episode titles off the DVD, Danielle goes first with a couple episodes of CatDog and Jeremy follows with a few episodes of Rocko’s Modern Life.

We discuss millennial woes, villain trios, and the dynamics of comic shop release dates. We recorded this one late at night and are both pretty low-energy. Let us lull you to sleep with our sleepy energy.

While we watch, we snack on some limited edition Hot Cocoa Puffs. Pretty good stuff.

SMT10: Nicktoons Out of the Vault Again [Part 2], Hot Cocoa Puffs

SMT09: Nicktoons Out of the Vault Again [Part 1], Trix

What lies within the mysterious Nicktoons DVD? Toon in to find out! Or we’ll just tell you. Danielle starts things off with the Nicktoon she couldn’t help but call dibs on, Ahh!!! Real Monsters, the scare-filled monster Nicktoon by Gabor Csupo. We watch an ep about Obleena’s human suit and one about a friendly bark-and-bite named Fungus.

Jeremy dives deeper into the mystery DVD to bring up a couple eps of Angry Beavers. Listen as we discuss beaver-based funk music and punch-based time travel.

We finish things out with a discussion of Trix, the Rabbity just-for-kids fruit cereal and how it’s betrayed Danielle’s memories of fruit shapes.

Are you a fan of Ahh!!! Real Monsters or Angry Beavers? What about other Nicktoons? Of course you are! Let us know your favorite ep in the comments or on Twitter @HeroesPodcasts!

SMT08: Cowboy Bebop, Futurama, Blueberry Morning

We are taking our first animated trip overseas with an episode of the Japanese anime series Cowboy Bebop (Cool your transforming jets, weaboos. This may not happen again). We discuss the somewhat controversial episode Cowboy Funk, arguably the most cartoony episode of Bebop. Maybe 2nd to Mushroom Samba?

Then we travel far into the future and a bit into the past with an episode of what is probably our shared favorite show after early Simpsons, Futurama with the fantastic episode Roswell that Ends Well. We discuss the sad hungry bug monster that is Doctor Zoidberg, explore what Bebop’s Fey and Futurama’s Fry have in common, and ask why Fry becoming his own grandfather doesn’t impact his descendant, Doctor Farnsworth.

We finish things out with a discussion of the healthy granola-adjacent cereal, Blueberry Morning.

Are you a fan of Cowboy Bebop or Futurama? Of course you are! Let us know your favorite ep in the comments or on Twitter @HeroesPodcasts!

SMT08: Cowboy Bebop, Futurama, Blueberry Morning

SMT07: Rugrats, Animaniacs, Peanut Butter Crunch

Danielle is back hosting this week and starts things off with a Nicktoon classic, Rugrats. We watch an episode where the sky falls and one where the babies make some TV in a cardboard box. Do Stu and Didi have a good marriage? Did Dil ruin everything? Are all the babies some sick delusion of Angelica’s? Listen to us find answers to none of these questions.

Jeremy brings another classic from the world of Stephen Spielberg’s foray into Warner Brothers animation, Animaniacs. We watch the 65th Anniversary Special and watch the Warners burn old Hollywood. Find out how Yakko, Wakko and Dot impacted world events such as World War II and the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Bad audio warning: We were dealing with some leaf-blowing and mic issues early in the episode. Did the best I could to edit it all out, but this ep has some bumps, buzzing and rumbles. Sincerest apologies.

SMT06: Batman, Spongebob, Thin Mints

This week is a bit of a change. Not only are we recording on a much worse mic (sorry), but the part of Danielle is being played by Jeremy’s girlfriend Erica. While not the cartoon obsessive Danielle is, she is a proper comic nerd and totally obsessed with Spongebob, which was her pick for the podcast.

We watched an episode of The New Batman Adventures where three kids swap stories about The Batman, including a one that is pretty much a kiddie version of Frank Miller’s Dark Knight. This pick was ostensibly in honor of the release of Justice League. Why not do an episode of Justice League, you might ask? Well, it wasn’t free on Amazon Prime and time was a factor.

Erica got into the superhero spirit and picked an ep of Spongebob Squarepants where he tangles with the utility belt and invisible boatmobile of none other than Mermaid Man himself. We learn all about Erica’s obsession with “Wumbo” and the declining mental state of Ms. Puff.

We also check out a Girl Scout Thin Mint cereal from General Mills that… well… is bad. Spoiler: It was weird and gross.
