In our first installment of our new “What If” Screen Heroes segment, we explore the many different stories we’d come across if Iron Man (Tony Stark) died at the end of Marvel’s Avengers. How would Avengers: Age of Ultron be affected? Would other heroes be featured more prominently with Iron Man no longer in the limelight? What about Civil War? These questions and more are answered as we pick apart the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) with this one creative change. We also go on a few tangents and rants. Always good times. Check out what we have to say and then give us your opinion in the comments below.

If you enjoyed the segment, shoot us some ‘What If’ scenarios you’d like us to tackle! Remember, we cover more than just comic book films and series. Anything featuring heroes on TV, in film, or video games is fair game.

SH S1E11: ‘What If’ Iron Man Died?

SH S1E10: R-Rated Comic Book Films

Just yesterday, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. announced that the upcoming DCEU film, Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice will receive a special “Ultimate” R-Rated cut on Blu-Ray. This, of course, comes in the wake of the incredible success of Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool, which has shattered R-Rated film records and stands to bring in more than ten times its budget and already has a sequel underway. Many people, like James Gunn are worried that people will take away the wrong message about Deadpool’s success while others think this is a big opportunity for other franchises like Wolverine and Batman to finally see more gritty and darker tones that more closely match their comic book counterparts.

To address the issue, we sit down to talk about the success of Deadpool, our thoughts on an R-Rated Batman movie, and how other comic book movies have fared with their R-rating. Join us for the discussion and then comment with your thoughts. Let us know if you think certain comic book franchise are deserving of an R-Rating or if these films are just asking for trouble.

SH S1E10: R-Rated Comic Book Films

SH S1E9: Batman, Through the Years

This week on Screen Heroes, Ryan and I are joined by our prop builder friend, Jon to talk about how the DC Comics iconic character, Batman has changed over the years in movies, TV, and video games. We hit on the classic Adam West version, Tim Burton’s take, as well as George Clooney. We also discuss the big Christopher Nolan trilogy and the highly anticipated Ben Affleck debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Outside of movies, we talk about the very popular Arkham video game franchise plus some of Batman’s better known animated works like The Dark Knight Returns and Batman: The Animated Series.

Before we jump into the Dark Knight, the three of us provide our initial thoughts on FOX’s new R-rate superhero film, Deadpool, starring Ryan Reynolds. We’ve all seen it, now we talk about it. We discuss what we liked about it plus some things they might have done better. It’s a short part of the episode but beware.

SH S1E6: Infinity War 67

After taking a week off due to snowstorms, Screen Heroes returns to discuss what we are all wondering… who will be in Marvel’s Infinity War films set to close out Phase 3 of the MCU? The Russo brothers are responsible for directing not just Captain America: Civil War but also both parts of Infinity War. In an interview, they threw the number 67 out, as the number of characters they are currently working with. Now, they did clarify and say they just threw out a random and generic number but hey, let’s have some fun! Join us as we try to come up with 67 Marvel canon characters that Marvel Studios owns the rights to who could show up in the massive ensemble films!

Once you’ve listened to our list, comment or reach out to use with anyone we missed or who would make your list!

Don’t forget to subscribe on iTunes at screen-heroes.com and leave us a review!

SH S1E5: Ziggy Played Guitar

With the passing of David Bowie this week at the age of 69 from cancer, we sit down to talk about our experiences with his music, film, and TV career. Join us as we talk about his vast range from Ziggy Stardust to The Man Who Fell to Earth to Labyrinth to The  Last Temptation of Christ to The Prestige. We also talk about his new album Blackstar. We used clips from the title song as well as “I Can’t Give Everything Away”, the album’s final track. We do this to set the mood and honor the final works of one of the most transformative and long-lasting vocal talents. We hope you enjoy our journey and take one of your own by commenting with your favorite David Bowie songs or roles.

Grid Talk: 07 – The Force Awakens

Grid Talk is back after a month’s absence to bring your Episode 07 all about Episode VII! That’s right, The Grid Daily is bringing Star Wars The Force Awakens discussions to the podcast. This week, the cast of Screen Heroes is joined by prop builder and Grid Daily contributor, Jon Czerkwinski as well as the other half of the Super Sirens, Hillz. We talk everything The Force Awakens which includes a ton of spoilers as we discuss plot points, characters, costumes, possible connections to canon and old Expanded Universe content, and more. The Force Awakens has crushed box office records and brought tears to the eyes of many. Now it’s time to sit back, listen to what we liked and what we took issue with, and of course, let the Wookiee win. Here’s Grid Talk Episode 07.

Grid Talk: 07 – The Force Awakens

SH S1E3 – Deadpool’s Apocalypse

In Episode 03 of Screen Heroes we talk about the new X-Men: Apocalypse trailer along with our thoughts on the soon to release Deadpool film.

This past week, FOX released the first trailer and actual footage from the upcoming Marvel Comics-based film, X-Men: ApocalypseApocalypse is the sequel to the 2014 film, X-Men: Days of Future Past which saw our mutant heroes fighting for the future with the help of Wolverine. Apocalypse takes place in the 80s with our younger mutant heroes a little bit older. Raven appears to be a good guy now as well as a lot less blue plus Magneto once again pushes the limits of his friendship with Professor X who… actually becomes bald at some point in the film! My favorite shot in the whole trailer.

After breaking down the first X-Men: Apocalypse trailer, we switch gears to a more controversial and adult Marvel Comics character, Deadpool. The new Deadpool film is slated for a February 12th release and looks to be a perfect role for once DC Comics superhero actor, Ryan Reynolds.

Also, don’t forget that we’ve done some re-branding! We are now The Grid Daily, so follow us on Twitter @grid_daily and Instagram @griddaily or hit up our main website griddaily.com.

SH S1E3 – Deadpool’s Apocalypse

SH S1E2 – Legends of the Flarrow-Verse

This week on Screen Heroes, we switch to the (DCEU) DC Comics Extended Universe to breakdown The CW’s Flarrow crossover for 2015. Since the launch of The Flash, The CW has taken advantage of its connected DC universe to bring us fun crossover events from a single character all the way up to major plot points. This year was no different. The CW brought us our Flarrow crossover last week with The Flash episode “Legends of Today” and Arrow episode “Legends of Yesterday”.  These episodes brought new characters to the Flarrow-verse, which include heroes Hawkgirl (Ciara Renée)  and Hawkman (Falk Hentschel) along with Legends of Tomorrow main villain, Vandal Savage (Casper Crump). Episode 02 of Screen Heroes is focused on breaking down these two episodes along with what we’ve seen in the Legends of Tomorrow trailer. We’ll discuss the overall plot, what we liked, what we didn’t, and what we’d change if The CW handed over the reigns.

SH S1E2 – Legends of the Flarrow-Verse

SH S1E1 – MCU: The Good with the Bad

Welcome to the first episode of Screen Heroes, a new superhero themed podcast series from The Grid: A Sci-Fi Frontier. Screen Heroes will cover everything we see on the big and small screen dealing with superheroes. That means the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), the DC Comics Extended Universe (DCEU), and anything else production companies throw at us.

The premiere of Screen Heroes is being dual published on Grid Talk’s feed, so everyone who listens in to our original series will also be able to listen to our first episode of Screen Heroes. While we are not on iTunes yet, we will be soon!

In our first episode, we’ll kick things off by discussing the pros and cons of the MCU. What is good about the massive connected universe? What are the pitfalls of such a far reaching group of franchises?

After listening, contact us letting us know your thoughts on the MCU. What do you like most about it? What do you dislike about it? You can reach us on Twitter, Facebook, email, or you can comment on the article on our website.

We’ve got a lot in store, so listen in, stay tuned, and thanks for joining us for Screen Heroes.
