Justice League has landed and so it’s time to talk about all that we liked and didn’t for the latest DCEU film. Synder and Whedon brought together DC Comics’ most iconic heroes including Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash,  Cyborg, and Aquaman! Did the movie pull it off or is a bust for Warner Bros?

What did you think of Justice League?

SMT06: Batman, Spongebob, Thin Mints

This week is a bit of a change. Not only are we recording on a much worse mic (sorry), but the part of Danielle is being played by Jeremy’s girlfriend Erica. While not the cartoon obsessive Danielle is, she is a proper comic nerd and totally obsessed with Spongebob, which was her pick for the podcast.

We watched an episode of The New Batman Adventures where three kids swap stories about The Batman, including a one that is pretty much a kiddie version of Frank Miller’s Dark Knight. This pick was ostensibly in honor of the release of Justice League. Why not do an episode of Justice League, you might ask? Well, it wasn’t free on Amazon Prime and time was a factor.

Erica got into the superhero spirit and picked an ep of Spongebob Squarepants where he tangles with the utility belt and invisible boatmobile of none other than Mermaid Man himself. We learn all about Erica’s obsession with “Wumbo” and the declining mental state of Ms. Puff.

We also check out a Girl Scout Thin Mint cereal from General Mills that… well… is bad. Spoiler: It was weird and gross.

Are you a fan of Spongebob Squarepants or Batman the Animated Series? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter @HeroesPodcasts!

SMT05: Garfield Thanksgiving, Pound Puppies, Fruit Loops

Whoops. We are posting episode 6 before episode 5 because Danielle is out of town and the file for episode 5 is trapped on her computer. Shouldn’t really matter, but this episode does reference things we discussed in episode 5. We’re still figuring out this whole podcasting thing, folks. Be patient. This week, Jeremy takes a look at a Garfield Thanksgiving special from the 80s where Jon Arbuckle is a real piece of garbage. We both constantly confuse the names Jon and Jim. Just when you think we’ve gotten it straightened out, we screw it up again. Danielle gets super bummed out because her favorite talking egg from USAcres never showed up.

Danielle then shares an episode of Pound Puppies where an Eastern European puppy is used by Soviet Mobsters to smuggle a mind control gem into the United States. Jeremy found it grating because of how much everyone was screaming. We follow our noses to some Fruit Loops this week and realize very little about the formula has changed in our lifetimes. We also use the fun size boxes as makeshift bowls because Danielle had never tried it.

Are you a fan of Garfield and Friends or Pound Puppies? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter @HeroesPodcasts!

RR07: Saru and Pandora

Saru gets an away mission but before that, non-corporeal aliens show up a lot in Star Trek. In fact, the Q and Voyager’s Kes are among some of the more well known energy beings. This week, we talk about our favorite non-corporeal alien episodes of Star Trek and we manage to cover three different series with our picks!

Then, we provide our spoiler-free thoughts on Star Trek: Discovery Episode 8 “Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum”. We do pause for a moment and then dive into spoilers discussing the opening battle, Saru’s away mission on a familiar planet, and a return to the Klingon ship of the dead, among other things.

Join our three-man crew for a journey that will span decades, every episode, every series, every movie, and every possible timeline no matter how small.

Come to Kansas City Comic Con November 10-12 and see us at booth #643! Three of the shows on the network will also be hosting live panel episodes! Hit up our Facebook page for details.

GH39 – BlizzCon 2017 Recap

SMT04: Brak Show, Oblongs, Special K

This week is a little different than previous episodes. Once a month, we’re doing prime time cartoons instead of our usual Saturday Morning or after school fare. Jeremy starts things off with late night [Adult Swim] classic, The Brak Show Starring Brak and Danielle goes with WB gem, The Oblongs.

We also start things off with a discussion of the cartoon career of Mark Hamill, including a very meta Justice League short that was released recently. We also go into a Nicktoon creator getting fired for sexual harassment. Very adult stuff.

The cereal this week, to go with the theme of being very adult, is a limited apple cinnamon flavor of Special K. This was Jeremy’s pick even though, as he learned doing the research, is a cereal targeted at weight-conscious women.

Are you a fan of The Brak Show or The Oblongs? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter @HeroesPodcasts!

RR06 – Space Whales and Time Travel

It wouldn’t be Star Trek without a convoluted time travel plot, which Discovery delivers with episode 7, “Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad.” This week, we are joined by cosplayer and Trek aficionado Michael Nguyen (sitting in for Derreck). We start the episode with a discussion of our favorite time travel themed episodes with a TNG classic and a couple of chroniton-packed DS9 episodes.

Then, we take our discussion to the details and plot points of “Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad,” as well as some good-natured griping about the current state of pop culture criticism regarding Discovery. We discuss the music of Wyclef Jean, beer pong, and Trojan space whales. We also highlight our favorite Staments line so far, “As days go, this is a weird one.”

Join our three-man crew for a journey that will span decades, every episode, every series, every movie, and every possible timeline no matter how small.
